PARTI Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (picture) has denied allegations that he was the “mastermind” behind Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (Bersatu) leaving the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition.

Dr Mahathir said it was illogical for Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to claim as such.

“If I wanted to do it first, I would be the prime minister (PM). But he (Muhyiddin) is the one who became the PM.

“I would not do something that would make me lose my position — he is talking nonsense,” Dr Mahathir told reporters after attending The Perdana Leadership Foundation CEO Forum 2022 yesterday.

Last Sunday, Muhyiddin posted on his Facebook page claiming that Dr Mahathir started the move for Bersatu to leave PH, and made a “u-turn” by deciding not to proceed with the move when the latter received support from PH for him to continue as PM.

Meanwhile, the former two-time premier who will be defending his Langkawi parliamentary seat in the upcoming general election said he will continue his political career even if he loses.

“I work for the country, not for myself. As long as I can help, I will help,” he said.

Earlier during his keynote address at the forum, Dr Mahathir called for all Malaysians to vote in the 15th General Election (GE15).

“With the polls just around the corner, Malaysians must not miss the chance to choose who will rule the nation.

“No matter how bleak or disgusted they are with what had transpired over the past years, not participating is not an option and if the wrong people win, it is not only the politicians who are to be blamed but everyone who did not vote,” he added.
