TOURISM Malaysia has organised the first ever Youth in Tourism (YIT) 2022 forum and town hall session to highlight the voices and views of the youth community regarding the tourism industry.
Held in Kuching, Sarawak, a total of 300 students from public and private institutions of higher learning, tourism product operators, NGOs and government agencies attended the “Inspiration of Young People Opening a New Sheet of the National Tourism Industry” forum.
YIT 2022 served as a platform for experience sharing on the younger generation’s willingness to face the challenges of the labour sector in the tourism industry.
Starting in Sarawak, YIT 2022 will be organised at five more locations across the country, namely Penang, Pahang, Johor, Sabah and Kuala Lumpur.
Tourism Malaysia DG Datuk Zainuddin Abdul Wahab (picture) said YIT 2022 aims to provide an opportunity for the youth to understand the development of the country’s tourism industry including the job opportunities offered, as well as inculcating the elements of tourism-based entrepreneurship as an effort to contribute to the country’s economic growth.
Today’s forum consisted of three panellists in the tourism industry sharing their experiences and knowledge to inspire and motivate the participants.
“We do not only want to reach out to the youth, but also to inject aspiration among them to choose a career or a tourism-based business,” Zainuddin said in a statement today.
He added that this step is in line with the recommendations of the World Tourism Organisation which emphasised the importance of sustainable tourism and further enhancing socioeconomic development and employment opportunities globally.
