TENAGA Nasional Bhd (TNB) through its subsidiary, GSPARX Sdn Bhd, signed a supply agreement for renewable energy (SARE) to provide smart energy solutions to the Rompin District Council (MDR).

The agreement will enable GSPARX to install a solar photovoltaic system with a capacity of 88.32kWP on the roof of the MDR administration building at no cost.

Once the installation of the solar panels is completed in March 2023, MDR is expected to save almost RM631,000 on electricity bills during the 20-year contract period, as well as RM1.03 million over the 25-year period.

TNB chairman Datuk Seri Hasan Arifin (second from left) said the collaboration is in line with TNB’s commitment in supporting the government’s agenda to achieve a reduction in the intensity of carbon emissions with a target of net zero emissions by 2050.

“The commitment was driven by measures to reduce the intensity of carbon emissions by 35% and reduce the capacity of coal power generation by 50% by 2035, in addition to empowering the generation of renewable energy (RE).

“Through the collaboration project with GSPARX, TNB is carrying out its social responsibility towards the environment, in line with TNB’s aspiration to be the best supplier of energy solutions in addition to being part of the solution to climate change,” he said in a statement today.

The installation of solar panels on the MDR building enables the reduction of the annual rate of carbon dioxide emissions by 83.9 metric tonnes, which is equivalent to the greenhouse gas sequestration of 1,387 trees during a 10-year period.

Representing TNB, the SARE was signed by Head of State Retail (Pahang) Rozianis Mohd Noor (third from right) while GSPARX was represented by MD Elmie Fairul Mashuri (right) and Datuk Ahmad Nasim Mohd Sidek (left), the MDR chairman.

Ahmad Nasim said the implementation of the agreement contributed to the development and recognition of MDR as a sustainable local authority, as well as making Rompin, Pahang, the highest-level liveable city in the coming years under the Malaysian Liveability Index Programme.

“We very much welcome this kind of programme, especially in support of cost saving measures in addition to being a pioneer in the exploration of renewable resources by the MDR.

“It gives the council an advantage where no advance payment is needed, with savings on monthly or annual electricity bill payments, a service package involving scheduled monitoring and maintenance by GSPARX.

“The system will be owned by the council after the contract period ends,” he said.

GSPARX had previously inked SARE with several local authorities including Seberang Perai City Council, Johor Baru City Council, Seremban City Council, Ipoh City Council and Subang Jaya City Council.
