KUALA LUMPUR • Bursa Malaysia stayed in the green at mid-afternoon, buoyed by bargain hunting in selected heavyweight stocks, led by the financial services and telecommunications and media counters.
Gains in Public Bank Bhd, Maxis Bhd, CIMB Group Holdings Bhd and Telekom Malaysia Bhd contributed 5.07 points to the barometer index.
At 3pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 11.8 points to 1,463.32 from yesterday’s close of 1,451.52, after opening 2.9 points better at 1,454.42.
On the broader market, advancers led decliners 384 to 365, while 358 counters were unchanged, 1,259 untraded and nine others suspended.
Turnover stood at 1.25 billion units worth RM851.03 million.
Bursa heavyweights Malayan Banking Bhd and Public Bank gained four sen each to RM8.67 and RM4.49 respectively, Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd increased eight sen to RM8.67 and CIMB advanced five sen to RM5.47, while IHH Healthcare Bhd was flat at RM6.16.
Of the actives, Velesto Energy Bhd and Metronic Global Bhd edged up half-a-sen each to 12 sen and 2.5 sen respectively, and RGB International Bhd added one sen to 13 sen, while SNS Networks Bhd eased 1.5 sen to 28 sen and Top Glove Corp Bhd shed two sen to 68.5 sen.
On the index board, the FBM Emas Index went up 74.68 points to 10,435.92, the FBM T100 Index bagged 75.33 points to 10,178.78, the FBM Emas Shariah Index increased by 79.03 points to 10,530.50, the FBM 70 advanced 66.61 points to 12,650.50 and the FBM ACE added 7.43 points at 4,766.83.
Sector-wise, the Energy Index was 3.52 points better at 727.0, the Financial Services Index surged 107.31 points to 16,476.93, the Industrial Products and Services Index inched up 0.97 of-a-point to 179.01 and the Plantation Index added 29.91 points to 6,903.84. – Bernama / pic TMR File
