FOR most organisations, especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs), the value of cloud technology tends to stop at traditional benefits like flexible infrastructure and resources, Huawei Technologies Co Ltd said.
Its rotating chairman Ken Hu (picture) said by putting advanced technology and workflows on the cloud, Huawei is helping businesses make the most of the cloud for leapfrog development.
“Going digital is clearly the right choice. Over the past two years, GDP growth has been unstable. Only the digital economy has seen consistent growth on a global scale — more than 15% in 2021.
“Of course, different countries and organisations are at different stages of their digital transformation journey,” he said in his keynote speech at the opening of Huawei Connect 2022 in Bangkok, Thailand, today.
Firstly, he pointed out that digital infrastructure where network penetration, cloud adoption and accessible computing resources are major pain points for organisations just starting out while for the more advanced, industrial scenarios require critical improvements in computing power, network capacity, bandwidth and latency.
“Second, introducing new technology to industrial scenarios is not easy. There aren’t enough ready-to-use solutions and all industries have a real lack of experienced digital talent,” he added.
The third major challenge is application development. According to International Data Corp, by 2024, over 500 million digital apps and services will be developed on the cloud, and this is more than all of the applications developed in the past 40 years. Traditional development processes are not enough to meet these needs, Hu said.
To break through these bottlenecks, Hu said businesses can boost their digital infrastructure, make the most of the cloud and build a stronger digital ecosystem.
“ICT can help with this by making connectivity more robust and computing resources more diverse.
“ICT builds out local digital ecosystems, including partner development, strengthening the digital talent pool and providing more support for SMEs,” he added.
Huawei Connect 2022, themed “Unleash Digital”, has gathered over 10,000 ICT industry leaders, experts and partners worldwide to explore how to more effectively unleash digital productivity, promote the digital economy and build up stronger digital ecosystems.
At the event, Huawei shared the steps it is taking to advance digital development across a wide range of industries, and released more than 15 innovative cloud services for the global market.
Huawei Cloud CEO Zhang Ping’an announced the launch of new Huawei Cloud Regions in Indonesia and Ireland whereby by the end of the year, Huawei Cloud will operate 75 availability zones in 29 regions around the world.
“Focusing on ‘Everything as a Service’, Huawei Cloud is committed to building the industry-leading platform for innovations on the cloud,” Zhang said.
Huawei Cloud also announced the launch of Huawei Cloud CCE Turbo, Ubiquitous Cloud Native Service, Pangu wave model, DataArts LakeFormation, Virtual Live, CodeCheck and CloudTest, KooMessage, KooSearch and KooGallery.
Meanwhile, Huawei Asia-Pacific region president Simon Lin released the Digital First Economy whitepaper on targeted policy suggestions for digital infrastructure construction and digital economy development in the Asia-Pacific region.
“Huawei is committed to becoming a key contributor to the digital economy in the region.
“We will keep supporting its digitalisation and sustainable development efforts, and building out the industry ecosystem,” he said.
The three-day conference is the first stop on Huawei Connect’s global tour this year.
Featuring two keynote sessions, six summits, as well as multiple breakout sessions and demos, this year’s event focuses on challenges that governments and enterprises face at all stages of their digital transformation journey.
