There’s still possibility to hold GE15 this year, PM says
A MEETING among Umno’s top five leaders is expected to be held soon to discuss the date for the 15th General Election (GE15), said Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Ismail Sabri, who is Umno VP, said the window for holding GE15 this year is still open and Umno’s top five would meet to discuss the timing for the polls.
“As I have told you earlier, every decision on GE will be made after a discussion among Umno’s top five,” he told reporters after opening the World Congress on Innovation and Technology today.
Asked whether the meeting would be held before or after the tabling of Budget 2023 on Oct 7 in the Dewan Rakyat, Ismail Sabri said it had not been decided yet.
“The discussion can be held as soon as possible or maybe earlier before the tabling of the budget,” he said.
Umno’s top five leaders are president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and VPs Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid and Ismail Sabri.
Asked on Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Razak’s health condition, Ismail Sabri said he had told the Health Ministry (MoH) to look into the former PM’s needs.
“I have called MoH to try to accommodate what Najib requires…whether he can be admitted to the National Heart Institute or not will be decided by MoH,” he said.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the statement made by Najib’s aide did not reflect the real situation.
“Najib was given a generic high blood pressure medication by Hospital Kuala Lumpur, whose formula was the same as what the Pekan MP was consuming previously (bought from private hospital).
“Hence, the allegation that the drug is changed is not true. We gave the same (drug) but its generic — which is just as good, the content is the same as the original drug — this has been confirmed by Dr Rosaida (the doctor who treated Najib),” Khairy said. — Bernama / pic TMR File
