INVEST Selangor Bhd and Medical Device Authority (MDA) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote and strengthen the medical device sector through the upcoming Selangor International Expo (SIE Medic).
This collaboration will see both parties envisage the sector through promotion and facilitate discussions towards establishing a collaborative framework, focusing on the field of medical devices and related technologies.
Selangor state executive councillor for industry and trade Datuk Teng Chang Khim (second from right) said while the industry is challenging, two states are competitive in terms of medical device manufacturing, namely Penang and Selangor.
In that regard, the MoU aims to drive Selangor as an investment-friendly state for prospective investors in the medical device industry.
“Although there is a substantial number of medical device players, Malaysia is far behind in terms of research and development, as well as the investors.
“Especially with the role of a private hospital in serving medical tourism, this calls for more growth in the medical devices field in the country,” Teng said during the MoU signing ceremony on Friday.
Out of the 800 booths at SIE Medic, 86 will be dedicated to the medical device sector, apart from other segments including food and beverage, medical products and more.
The MoU was signed between Invest Selangor CEO Datuk Hasan Azhari Idris (right) and MDA CEO Ahmad Shariff Hambali (left).
Teng said moving forward, apart from the existing ones, more collaborations will be established with various agencies and authorities.
With the theme “Pioneering Tomorrow’s Healthcare”, SIE Medic 2022 will take place from Oct 6 to 9, 2022, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre and is free for the public.
