TOURISM Malaysia has signed a memorandum of collaboration (MoC) with Qatar Airways to extend their network and strengthen strategic cooperation.

This cooperation is aimed to further strengthen Malaysia’s appeal as a preferred destination among Middle Eastern travellers as well as those from Europe and the US.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said with the reopening of international borders and the increasing demand for air travel, more initiatives will take place to help boost tourist arrivals to Malaysia.

She said Malaysia is expecting 500 Indian business travellers for a business event this month and about 700 visitors to arrive next month for a conference in Sabah.

“More joint activities are mapped out through familiarisation trips to Malaysia, marketing promotional activities and advertising campaigns to feature Malaysia as a preferred holiday destination,” she said at the signing ceremony today.

Meanwhile, Qatar Airways group CEO Akbar Al Baker said the airline is moulded strongly by tourism and it is committed to playing its role in supporting Tourism Malaysia through this collaboration.

“This partnership provides better efficiencies and a more comprehensive network to promote Malaysia’s tourism offerings and highlight the new and exclusive attractions,” he said.
