THE Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (Motac) is expecting 9.2 million inbound tourists which is estimated to generate RM26.8 million for the fourth quarter of 2022 (4Q22).
The estimation was based on the revenue totalling 3.21 million with a tourism income value of RM9.35 billion recorded for the period of January to July 2022.
Its Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri (picture) said the positive numbers are slowly increasing by the day as Motac continues to plan and strategise further initiatives and campaigns to boost tourism.
With Brunei opening its borders on Aug 1, 2022, and more countries have relaxed their travelling restrictions, Motac is confident that more tourists will visit Malaysia.
“We are excited to see the positive growth in tourism post-Covid-19 and we hope to remain as one of the main sectors to contribute to the nation’s GDP,” Nancy said.
In 2019, the tourism sector recorded the highest number of tourist arrivals at 26.1 million visitors, with profits of RM86.1 billion.
“My hope is that all tourism industry players and tourism businesses will work hand in hand with Motac in realising the 4Q22 target.
“This is in line with the government’s hope to make Malaysia ‘Destinasi Lestari, Kaya Budaya’ by 2030 as planned in the National Tourism Policy,” she concluded.
