The appointment takes effect from July 14

MALAYSIA Aviation Group (MAG) have appointed two non-EDs Tan Sri Dr Zulhasnan Rafique (picture; left) and Faridah Bakar Ali (right) to the MAG and Malaysia Airlines Bhd’s board with effect from July 14, 2022.
Commenting on the new appointments, MAG group chairman Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin said their strong career background would be of tremendous value to the organisation in realising their aspirations of becoming Asia’s leading travel and aviation services group.
Zulhasnan began his career as a commissioned officer and fighter pilot at the Royal Malaysian Air Force and retired with the rank of Major (Air) in 1985.
“With more than 25 years of business experience in various industries including aviation, civil/building construction, industrial petroleum and gas trading, as well as property investment and development, qualified him as an experienced entrepreneur, diplomat and businessman.
“In addition, he has also served several boards in the Malaysian public listed companies, namely Island & Peninsular Sdn Bhd, Aircraft Inspection Repair & Overhaul Depot Sdn Bhd and Kuantan Flour Mills Bhd,” MAG said in a statement.
MAG added that Zulhasnan has also previously Cabinet ministers for five years as the Federal Territories Minister and Deputy Federal Territories Minister from 2004 to 2009, before being appointed as the Malaysian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary with ministerial status to the US from 2017 to 2018.
“Faridah, meanwhile, is currently Khazanah Nasional Bhd CFO since 2006. Previously, she worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers Malaysia and BP Malaysia Sdn Bhd to build her accountancy and finance career.
“During her tenure with BP Malaysia, she worked on a Japanese entity, restructuring the reporting process as well as the selloff of a major segment of BP to a Shanghai entity. While at Khazanah, she delivered several notable Islamic finance transactions including the world’s first exchangeable sukuk of US$750 million (RM3.35 billion) into Telekom Malaysia Bhd’s shares in 2006 and the world’s first negative yield sukuk into Parkson’s shares in 2012,” MAG said.
