Budding stand-up comedian wins headliner show at The Joke Factory

UP AND coming comedian Asuraajan Sharleh became the winner of the first ever stand-up comedy competition in 2022 organised by The Joke Factory by Harith Iskander.

Popularly known by his stage name Asu, the rising comedian emerged as the champion of the “Time To Shine Like A Star” comedy battle last Thursday at Publika Shopping Gallery in Kuala Lumpur.

Receiving an average rating of 8.5 points from this audience-based competition, Asu walked away with a cash prize of RM300 and a headliner show with The Joke Factory by Harith Iskander.

The event, hosted by seasoned stand-up comedian Michael Saddi, saw 10 comedians battling it out on stage to be crowned the funniest comedian of the night.

“Thank you to The Joke Factory, the audience and my fellow comedians! I am very grateful to be crowned tonight’s winner.

“This award has made me a lot more confident to continue doing what I love and performing in the comedy scene,” said Asu after winning the first competition in his stand-up comedy career.

“Many friends and family have told me I am funny. However, to have strangers vote for me and laugh throughout my jokes is a huge recognition for me,” added Asu, when asked about his journey of being a comedian.

The first runner-up, with a cash prize of RM150, went to Fathimath Nuha, a familiar face in the comedy scene, while the second runner-up went to Astro’s Gegar Lawak alumni Ayim Razak, with a cash prize of RM100.
