MoF continues to support special border economic zone

The economic zone has signed 3 property strategic investment agreements amounting to RM7.2b up to June 2022

THE government will continue to support development in the special border economic zone (SBEZ) as planned to promote the investment and boost economic development.

Deputy Finance Minister II Yamani Hafez Musa (picture) said SBEZ has signed three property strategic investment agreements amounting to RM7.2 billion up to June 2022.

“The projects are lorry deport and internal clearance development project by PKT Logistik Sdn Bhd in December 2019, a nitrile glove project by Hartalega Bhd in March 2021, and a data and Internet exchange project in December 2021,” he told Dewan Negara today.

He noted that the  SBEZ in Bukit Kayu Hitam covers almost 4,775.3ha which is the high-impact initiative jointly planned by the federal government and Kedah state government.

“The direct involvement of the Finance Ministry (MoF) in the SBEZ Bukit Kayu Hitam is through the MoF Inc, namely Northern Gateway Sdn Bhd as the main developer of the Delapan SBEZ (formerly known as Kota Perdana) which covers an area of 1,780.6ha or 38% of the total area of Bukit Kayu Hitam,” he added.
