MALAYSIAN Palm Oil Board (MPOB) and Briar Resources Sdn Bhd today inked two memoranda of agreements (MoAs) for the technology transfer of two fertiliser formulations for commercialisation to the latter.

The two fertiliser formulations are namely the Enhanced MPOB F5 Fertiliser Formulation (MPOB F5 Improved) and Enhanced MPOB F5 Super Fertiliser Formulation (MPOB F5 Premium).

Under the two MoAs — which were signed in conjunction with the Malaysia International Agricommodity Expo and Summit — Briar Resources will commercially produce the two fertiliser formulations for oil palm cultivation.

At the event, MPOB was represented by chairman Jugah Anak Muyang@Tambat and DG Datuk Dr Ahmad Parveez Ghulam Kadir (front, right).

Meanwhile, Briar Resources was represented by chairman Datuk Rizalman Mokhtar and CEO Wayne Lai Soon Wei (front, left).

The exchange of the agreements was witnessed by the Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin (centre).

Ahmad Parveez said Briar Resources was chosen because the company possesses facilities such as equipment and machinery to produce the two fertilisers.

“Briar Resources also has the expertise to produce pelletised fertiliser fortifying chemical fertiliser and organic materials,” he said in a statement.

MPOB F5 Improved can be an alternative source of oil palm fertiliser besides other types of fertilisers developed by MPOB. The improved fertiliser formulation can be applied using a mechanical spreader in the field.

On the other hand, the improvised formulation and fertiliser form of MPOB F5 Premium has been proved to increase nitrogen efficiency and has a higher relative hardness, hence the application rate of fertiliser can be reduced. It will help to address the acute labour shortage by the adaptation of mechanical spreaders in the field.
