Housing icon Mustapha Kamal dies

CORPORATE figure and property developer Emkay Group founder Mustapha Kamal Abu Bakar, died this morning. He was 73 years old.

Astro Awani reported that Setia Haruman Sdn Bhd chairman died at 7.45am at the National Heart Institute. 

The “icon of affordable housing” will be buried at the Bukit Kiara Muslim cemetery today.

Mustapha founded Emkay in 1983 and also co-founded MK Land Holdings Bhd.

He began his career as a civil servant with the Selangor government, and later on, served as a deputy commissioner at the lands and mines department.

He then ventured into the private sector, starting off as Shah Alam Properties Sdn Bhd MD before later forming the Emkay Group.
