PERUSAHAAN Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd’s (Perodua) brand new multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) Perodua Alza is being offered from RM62,500 for the X variant.

Launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob today, other variants are the H variant which starts at RM68,000 and the AV variant from RM75,500 (priced in West Malaysia and without insurance).

The much-anticipated MPV model for Malaysians has been developed with an investment of RM770 million since April 2018.

Perodua president and CEO Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad said the all-new Perodua Alza had received more than 30,000 orders since the compact carmaker opened its orders on June 23, the highest in the brand’s history.

He added that other factors were the overall value appeal of the all-new Perodua Alza package including enhanced safety features such as six airbags, “Advanced Safety Assistance (ASA)” feature, enhanced digital offerings, ample space and improved driving comfort.

“This achievement is due to several factors, among them is that customers want to take full advantage of the sales tax exemption initiative which expired on June 30.

“Of the more than 200,000 orders we received so far, almost 15% includes the Perodua Alza model which was launched today,” he said during the opening ceremony.

Also present were Perodua chairman Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin and Daihatsu Motor Co president Soichiro Okudaira.

According to Zainal Abidin, almost 4,000 customers have changed their Perodua Alza orders to the latest version even before the opening of the order was officially announced.

“Starting today, some of our customers will receive their new Perodua Alza from 195 authorised sales showrooms nationwide.

“In addition, we assure that customers who order the new Perodua Alza on or before June 30 will receive the vehicle before the March 31, 2023, deadline,” he noted. They will enjoy lower prices as they qualify for the sales tax exemption initiative.

The government recently announced that all vehicles booked on or before June 30 can still enjoy the sales tax exemption initiative as long as their vehicles are registered on or before March 31, 2023.

The all-new Perodua Alza is developed through the Daihatsu New Generation Architecture platform which offers advantages such as more cabin space, better driving and a higher ground clearance of 160mm.

This seven-seater MPV has a single engine option which is the 1.5-liter 2NR-VE 1.5-liter four-cylinder Dual VVTi engine that generates 105 horsepower at 6,000 revolutions per minute (rpm) and 138 newton-meter at 4,200rpm.

With a D-CVT type transmission, it is said to be able to provide fuel consumption readings of about 22km per litre.

On top of that, three driving modes namely Normal, Eco and Power are included on the AV variant to provide more satisfactory driving performance.

In terms of equipment, each Perodua Alza variant is equipped with LED headlights with Follow-Me Home and Leaving Home functions as well as LED tail lights.

The rims come in 15-inch (38.1cm) sizes for the X variant, and 16 inches for the H and AV.

There are five attractive colours on offer namely Ivory White, Glittering Silver, Garnet Red, as well as two new colours namely Elegant Black and Vintage Brown.

Stepping into the cabin, the model comes with a nine-inch audio display and seven-inch Transmission Fluid Temperature instrument cluster on the H and AV variants, USB ports on the front and rear, electronic parking brakes with Auto Hold, multifunction steering wheel and two-tone leather upholstery (AV only).

Another significant improvement brought by this all-new model is the safety aspect, when all three variants come standard with the latest ASA features that include Pre-Collision Warning, Pre-Collision Assist Brake (for vehicles and pedestrians), Mis-Pedal Operational Control and Front Departure Alert.

Not only that, all Perodua Alza variants also get other driving assistance features such as Lane Departure Warning, Lane Departure Prevention, Hill Start Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Control and Blind Spot Monitor.

Assistance for parking consists of 360 Panoramic View Monitor, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, reversing camera, front angle sensor and rear angle sensor.

Other safety features available include six airbags, rear disc brakes, anti-lock braking systems with electronic brakeforce distribution, as well as Vehicle Stability Control with Brake Assist.
