PREMIUM grocery chain Village Grocer has expanded its reach in the northern region with two new stores in Penang.

Its operator The Food Purveyor (TFP Retail Sdn Bhd) officially opened the latest store at 1st Avenue Mall on July 12, as well as Village Grocer Queens Waterfront which had its soft launch in April 2022.

The premium grocer also celebrated the first anniversary of Village Grocer City Junction, which had its soft launch in June 2021.

The Food Purveyor CEO Geoff King said: “Penangites, get ready as Village Grocer is making a big splash across the town. We are combining the celebration of our 18th anniversary in the retail industry with the official opening of two stores (Village Grocer Queens Waterfront and Village Grocer 1st Avenue), AND celebrating the first anniversary at Village Grocer City Junction mall — all within a week!

“Loads of exciting rewards, deals and promotions have been lined up during the campaign period from July 11 to Aug 7 to celebrate this birthday bash.”

He said the group decided to expand in Penang as the state is synonymous with great food and a real melting pot of different cultures. 

“Our stores now serve customers in the north, the centre and to east areas of Penang Island.” 

In conjunction with Village Grocer 1st Avenue’s official opening, customers can take part in contests, giveaways, roadshows, coupon deals and other activities. For new Bites Members, there are sign-up offers worth more than RM50 in vouchers.

Among others, every customer can enjoy a RM10 discount via an e-voucher and receive a free Village Grocer re-usable bag with a minimum spend of RM100 (capped at 1,000 units), as well as a chance to win two-day, one-night staycation at Lexis Suites Penang.

TFP recently received the ESG Initiative of the Year-Malaysia award at the Retail Asia Awards 2022, in recognition of its efforts to redirect surplus food to combat hunger and food insecurity, support the underserved and vulnerable communities, and other corporate social responsibility initiatives.
