THE Employees Provident Fund (EPF) has launched the i-Lindung platform under the Members Protection Plan to facilitate the purchase of insurance and takaful products consisting of life and critical illness protection.

Offered at an affordable premium from Account 2, the protection offerings are available to EPF members with immediate effect.

According to the statutory body, members who wish to purchase insurance and participate in takaful products offered by EPF-approved insurance companies and takaful operators can do so via the i-Lindung platform within the EPF i-Akaun (Member) portal.

The participating insurance companies and takaful operators are FWD Takaful Bhd, Prudential Assurance Malaysia Bhd, Prudential BSN Takaful Bhd, Etiqa Life Insurance Bhd and Etiqa Family Takaful Bhd.

The i-Lindung self-service platform, which can be accessed at any time of the day, allows members to obtain information on the available products and prices, and get a quick quotation before purchasing the preferred product anytime and anywhere.

A single view of the policy/certificate purchased will also be provided, allowing members to refer to it instantly and securely.

For added value, the insurance companies and takaful operators in the i-Lindung platform are able to provide additional coverage and customise the price of their products according to members’ affordability.

The EPF has noted that no medical check-up is required.

Chairman Tan Sri Ahmad Badri Mohd Zahir (third from left) said the Members Protection Plan is another milestone for the EPF as it provides an avenue of social protection and financial security to its members should anything unfortunate happen.

“Protection through insurance and takaful is one of the key components of financial wellbeing which we highly encourage our members to obtain to be protected against financial uncertainties.

“The i-Lindung facility is especially beneficial for EPF members where the EPF has worked together with the insurance companies and takaful operators to offer the most affordable rate to our members,” he said during the launch ceremony today.

Ahmad Badri said the ownership of insurance policies and takaful plans among Malaysians are still low, especially among the bottom 40% income group.

He noted that this situation is particularly worrying as this segment is more vulnerable to disasters and faces a lack of protection.

At the industry level, Ahmad Badri said the ownership rate of insurance and takaful coverage is also low, which will certainly stunt the growth of the insurance coverage industry overall.

“As a protection-based institution, the EPF called to play its part in encouraging members, especially those of low income, to obtain sufficient and appropriate protection plans to reduce the risk of financial uncertainty in the future.

“Therefore, the i-Lindung facility was created and the EPF is confident that besides being able to help members to get insurance and takaful coverage, it also seeks to help realise the country’s goal to achieve an insurance penetration rate of more than 70%,” he added.

Members below the age of 55 with sufficient balance in Account 2, Malaysian and are registered i- Akaun users, are eligible to purchase the products under i-Lindung.

Those above 55 years old can also purchase products under i-Lindung provided they are within the eligible entry age of the related products and maintain a minimum RM100 in their Akaun 55 or Akaun Emas.
