THE Malaysia Digital Economy Corp’s (MDEC) decision to replace Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC Malaysia) with the new Malaysia Digital (MD) initiative is a progressive step for the nation.

Fusang Corp CEO Henry Chong said this new initiative will cultivate the growth of a robust and deep digital ecosystem by expanding digital adoption across all segments of businesses in Malaysia.

At the same time, MD will promote digital professional mobility from across the region.

“Indeed, Malaysia, with its connectivity, cost efficiency, quality of life, as well as this renewed commitment to digital innovation, makes an ideal base for digital-based companies like Fusang and for digital nomads looking for a home in the region,” he said in a statement today.

Fusang, a regional digital exchange with operations in Hong Kong and Labuan, recently ramped up its presence in Malaysia, specifically Kuala Lumpur with the aim of operating more extensively in the country due to all the benefits encapsulated in MD incentives.

In a Facebook post, Sabah Net Sdn Bhd said it also looked forward to this launch and hoped to become one of the MD Catalytic Programme initiators.

“We hope to assist the government in driving and accelerating sustainable growth of the nation’s digital economy,” it said.

On the other hand, Deputy Finance Minister Mohd Shahar Abdullah believed that MD is the hope and future for Malaysia’s digital transformation to become a more developed and competitive country.

“Today the country continues to be ahead with the advancement of more sophisticated digital services.

“Hopefully, with the launch of MD, we can move forward in many sectors such as e-commerce (and) digital ecosystems, and can develop a better economic agenda for developing digital Malaysia,” he said in a recent Facebook post.
