THE Cabinet has agreed to establish a “Special Jihad Team” to address the inflation, which is aimed to help Malaysians to cope with the rising cost of living in the country.

Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that the team will be chaired by the Communication and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

“This special team is responsible for gathering all the information from ministries, agencies and the public to formulate strategies as well as coordinate actions to resolve inflation-related issues,” the PM said, adding that this will help in controlling the increase in the price of goods more efficiently.

“This special team will function similarly to the team which manages the Covid-19 pandemic, by holding two meetings a week for example, on Mondays and Thursdays.

“A press conference will be held after each meeting to provide clarification on issues raised by the Malaysia Family,” Ismail Sabri added.

This step was taken following the challenge of rising cost of living as a result of climate change and geopolitical uncertainty including conflict between Russia-Ukraine which is expected to affect the food and fuel commodity markets.

Apart from Annuar, other members on the team include Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Minister in the PM’s Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali.
