Mami Aida live at Hard Rock Café in July

LOCAL singer Aida Elias, also known as Mama Aida, will be holding her first showcase in Kuala Lumpur at Hard Rock Café on July 16.

The songstress may not be as well-known as other of popular local artists, but neither is she a newbie as she has been involved in the entertainment industry since 1990.

Her luck, however, may have changed after her latest single “Cari Pacar” became a hit in Indonesia when it was launched there in February this year. The single rose to the No 2 spot on two Indonesian radio stations’ dangdut chart.

The decision to debut the song in the neighbouring country came as Malaysia was still under strict pandemic restrictions at the time. Now, with the country moving into the endemic stage, she’s ready to rock her homeland with a showcase organised by BEST FBKL Concerts dan Muzik Dua Karya to promote new artists to the Malaysian audience.

Mama Aida will be performing 15 songs, including “Cari Pacar”, from several genres including ballad, rock and dangdut, as well as paying tribute to two artists who have inspired her — Ziana Zain and Liza Hanim.

The mother of three, who is also a staff at the Ministry of Health, finds it challenging juggling her full-time work, her passion for singing and her family. Nonetheless, Mama Aida finds inspiration and strength in her three children to continue persevering chasing her dreams.

Besides singing, Mama Aida has also acted in several telemovies including “Selamat Pagi Abang Posmen” directed by Zulkiflee M Osman and “Cinta Di Kaki Gunung Jerai” directed by Khalid Sulaiman.
