BIOMECHANICAL expert Prof Dr Noor Azuan Abu Osman has been appointed Universiti Tenaga Nasional’s (Uniten) fifth VC effective June 8, 2022.
A graduate of the University of Bradford, UK and the University of Strathclyde, Scotland, he had previously served at Universiti Malaya (UM) and Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT).
Noor Azuan replaces Prof Datuk Dr Kamal Nasharuddin Mustapha who retired on June 7, 2022, after being in office since May 5, 2015.
Last March, Noor Azuan received the National Academic Award in the Innovation and Product Commercialisation category for his research which had placed Malaysia in second place after the US in the Prosthetic and Orthotic research segment.
He is also the president of the Malaysian Society of Biomechanics and represents the country in the World Council of Biomechanics as well as an executive committee of the Asian Pacific Association of Biomechanics.
Adding to his accolades, Noor Azuan was UM’s Centre for Applied Biomechanics director and the founder of BioApps Sdn Bhd, among many others.
Due to his vast experience, he has been entrusted the role of a visiting professor in some higher learning institutions in China and an assessor in Brunei, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Qatar and the UK.
Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) chairman Datuk Seri Hasan Arifin expressed his confidence that Noor Azuan, with his vast experience, is capable of strengthening Uniten’s position locally and internationally.
“On behalf of TNB’s board of directors, management and the entire workforce, I congratulate Noor Azuan on this appointment,” said Hasan, who is also the chairman of Uniten’s board of directors, after receiving a courtesy call from the VC at his office recently.
