Persistent selling on Bursa Malaysia at mid-afternoon

BURSA Malaysia remains in negative territory at mid-afternoon on persistent selling in heavyweights led by IHH Healthcare Bhd and Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd (PetChem) stocks, a dealer said.

IHH Healthcare and PetChem weighed down 3.608 points of the barometer index. 

At 3pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 2.95 points to 1,528.88 from yesterday’s close of 1,523.86.

The benchmark index opened 0.55 of-a-point easier at 1,523.31.

On the broader market, losers outpaced gainers 463 to 247, while 326 counters were unchanged, 1,238 untraded and 10 others suspended.

Turnover amounted to 2.1 billion units worth RM1.09 billion.

Among the heavyweights, Malayan Banking Bhd eased three sen to RM8.81, PetChem fell 13 sen to RM9.72, IHH Healthcare slipped 12 sen to RM6.41, CIMB Group Holdings Bhd slid two sen to RM5.05, while Public Bank Bhd improved one sen to RM4.58.

Of the actives, Yew Lee Pacific Group Bhd added three sen to 32 sen, EA Holdings Bhd eased half-a-sen to one sen, LGMS Bhd declined 10.5 sen to 74 sen, while Dynaciate Group Bhd and Green Packet Bhd were flat at 14.5 sen and 7.5 sen, respectively.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index was 80.1 points lower at 10,852.89, the FBM Emas Shariah Index dropped 114.56 points to 11,118.82, the FBM 70 declined 49.27 points to 13,242.84, the FBM ACE decreased 71.45 points to 5,162.65 and the FBM T100 Index slipped 76.14 points at 10,546.17.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index trimmed 24.47 points to 16,553.64, the Plantation Index tumbled 128.51 points to 7,683.27 and the Industrial Products and Services Index was 1.92 points easier at 194.34. — Bernama / TMRpic
