Loke: PM must avoid ‘flip-flop’ statements

PRIME Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob must be more assertive and consistent in his stance and be responsible for his statements.

DAP general secretary Anthony Loke (picture) said this in response to the PM’s recent interview with Nikkei where he said there would be no election anytime soon because of the inflation plaguing the country.

However, at the Barisan Nasional (BN) Convention yesterday, he announced that he would not wait another second before dissolving Parliament if BN was ready.

“Basically, the PM needs to be consistent and firm in his stance. ‘Flip-flop’ statements and messages will only lead to continued political instability and will further harm the country’s economic situation. He needs to give a clearer political message to the people and the world.

“If he really wants to address the issue of inflation instead of calling for elections in the near future, then he, as the PM, needs to find consensus across parties so that the entire national focus is on the agenda of helping the people,” Loke said in a statement today.

In regards to DAP’s position in the upcoming general election, Loke reiterated that DAP is ready with its coalition partners to contest the next general election whenever it is called.

“I would like to emphasise that DAP has never been worried about facing elections. If Parliament is dissolved, DAP is ready with its Pakatan Harapan partners to enter the arena and campaign as hard as possible,” he said. — by FAYYADH JAAFAR / pic TMR
