THE “big tent” strategy should be inclusive of all Opposition parties, not just those associated with the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition.

Amanah communications director Khalid Samad (picture) said his party’s stand is that the Opposition needs to be united. “This includes Parti Pejuang Tanah Air, Parti Warisan Sabah and the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda).

“Of course, the concept of a big tent involves more than PH, but only the Opposition,” Malaysiakini reported today.

Khalid said Amanah met and discussed with all Opposition parties, not just those involved with PH.

“Amanah is working to unite all Opposition parties, as explained in its big tent concept,” he said.

Khalid was responding to Pejuang president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, who said his party would not move solo in the upcoming general election (GE).

Mukhriz also said his party had held informal discussions with several parties from the government, the Opposition and neutral parties.

He said discussions with the parties in PH so far did not involve PKR.

“We will not participate in GE15 alone. So, we have discussed with several parties, including the government party, the Opposition and parties that do not support any party (neutral).

“The discussions were held informally, and formal discussions will be held in the near future. We are open to this cooperation, either in terms of coalitions or literal alliances,” he said at a press conference after the opening of the Kelantan Pejuang branch in Kota Baru recently.
