SUNWAY Group partners with the Malaysian AIDS Foundation (MAF) for its signature #SunwayforGood Raya Cheer initiative which is set to reach hundreds of families impacted by HIV/AIDS with essential groceries and cash aid across Malaysia.
In a statement, Sunway said this long-term partnership is also supporting close to 20,000 beneficiaries in the bottom 40% income (B40) group segment who will receive essential aid in the form of rice, bubur lambuk, groceries and packed meals as well as B40 people living with hiv (PLHIV) in Sabah and Sarawak through the Sunway’s Health Outreach Programme for Everyone.
Sunway vice chairman Tan Sri Rasman M Hashim said the firm has held a long-term collaboration with MAF in line with efforts to be more inclusive this year and each programme under the #SunwayforGood initiative is an opportunity for them to reach out to more families in need.
“Corporate responsibility is part of our DNA, and our #SunwayforGood initiative has reaped over half a million benefits since it began in 2017. It is our promise to continue to try our best to do everything we can to lead change in their lives,” he said.
The Sunway-MAF collaboration began in December 2021, with Sunway coming on board as MAF’s official sustainability partner. This partnership is the annual Sunway-MAF Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Award and Sunway’s long-term support for MAF’s major projects serving underprivileged PLHIV in the Borneo states.
MAF chairman Prof Datuk Dr Adeeba Kamarulsaman said addressing the issue of filling their shortcomings was important to our mission to prevent the spread of AIDS, and further fulfil their goal of triggering a more effective response to the epidemic.
“Therefore, we are deeply touched by Sunway’s concern for marginalised PLHIV and are excited to explore ongoing collaborations with Sunway to increase access to antiretroviral drugs for economically disadvantaged patients, especially in rural Sabah and Sarawak,” she said.
Since its launch, #SunwayforGood has benefitted the lives of over half a million and benefitted to positively impact more benefits nationwide ahead of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the 50th anniversary of its founding — Sunway in 2024, based on Sunway’s core values and purposeful commitment.
