Bersatu’s call for unity is ironic, Pejuang man says

This is because they are the one who ‘betray’ the mandate and vote of the people

PARTI Pejuang Tanah Air has described Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s call for a united front as ironic because the latter’s president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was the one who toppled the previous government and became prime minister (PM).

Pejuang counsel Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali said the Sheraton Move, in which Bersatu withdrew its support from Pakatan Harapan, was the reason the new government was formed and that it was the same people who now wanted to topple it.

“Let us not forget that the Sheraton Move also showed how politicians, to stay in power, rank and office, and for their own motives, are willing to turn their backs on the mandate and vote of the people.

“At the time, did they think the move would give life back to a handful of people in Umno who have now returned to power?

“It is only for the continuation of power so that they can get a big salary, benefits,” he said in a statement today.

Moreover, he said the Covid-19 pandemic has exposed the double standards of politicians and those in power such as flying abroad, hosting banquets and returning without the need to quarantine.

“After the Sheraton Move and then the transition from Muhyiddin to Ismail Sabri Yaakob as PM, people began to realise that politicians and the Parliament actually no longer care about the mandate of the people.

“To the people, all parties are the same. There is no difference. They just want power,” Muhammad Rafique added.

He noted that the Melaka and Johor state elections proved that if people refused to go to the ballot box, the ones who would benefit were Umno and Barisan Nasional.

He urged voters to scrutinise the candidates as individuals and whether he or she really cares about the welfare of the people.

“People must choose wisely. They must also dare to come out again during the general election to make changes for the country,” he concluded.
