MALAYSIA and Thailand have agreed to set up a joint special committee to look into the proposed high-speed rail (HSR) project connecting Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (picture), in a Facebook statement yesterday.

The transport minister who had a bilateral meeting with his fellow counterpart from Thailand, Saksayam Chidchob, said the committee would discuss the planning and technical aspects of the proposed HSR project.

“I would like to thank Saksayam for his cooperation in implementing the Vaccinated Travel Lane in mid-March 2022 even for a short period before the Malaysian border reopened from April 1, 2022.”

He also informed that Malaysia and Thailand will continue to work together to revive the aviation sector.

Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on his official visit to Thailand said both countries agreed to conduct feasibility studies on the HSR project.
