HRD Corp and Johns Hopkins to collaborate for skill training programme

HRD Corp, an agency under the Ministry of Human Resources (MoHR) will form a strategic partnership with Johns Hopkins University.

This collaboration will include preparatory skill training programmes especially in the field of high technology and the latest technology such as artificial intelligence (AI), 5G technology, cybersecurity, blockchain technology and several other programmes to ensure Malaysian employees are ready for the digital future.

According to MoHR Minister Datuk Seri M Saravanan, the agreement for the partnership was indicated during his recent visit to Washington, US.

“I believe HRD Corp can leverage the expertise possessed by Johns Hopkins University in high-tech courses primarily for the purpose of professional skill development,” he said in a statement today.

“I have also recommended HRD Corp to take advantage of the joint venture with Johns Hopkins University to expand its micro-credential initiatives internationally,” Saravanan added.

“In the meantime, I have also instructed HRD Corp to cooperate with the National Institute of Public Administration to ensure that senior government officials can achieve training programmes in the field of AI.”

The programme, he said, will provide exposure in addition to equipping government officials with understanding and skills needed in strengthening leadership.

HRD Corp and Johns Hopkins University will also work together to develop short-term training programmes for strengthening the marketability of the Malaysian workforce.

It, too, will support the government’s efforts in ensuring that there are job opportunities for all Malaysians. –TMR
