MALAYSIA International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec) appointed Mala Dorasamy (picture) as its new company CEO.
Mala serves as Mitec’s director of marketing and sales since 2017 and took on the acting CEO role in 2021.
Mala will be responsible to transform Mitec into the business and lifestyle events industry’s forefront player.
“Mala is a remarkable choice, bringing a wealth of experience from the international business and lifestyle events industry. This appointment marks an exciting chapter for Mitec and the board looks forward to working with Mala as she steers Mitec into greater pinnacles,” said Mitec chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Mamat.
Mala was previously the director of marketing, sales and events at the Durban International Convention Centre (ICC). She played a significant role in building the Durban ICC’s global reputation, brand and profitability.
She has a proven track record with over 31 years of experience in the business events industry specialising in the opening of new centres; project managing major United Nations/Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation/BRICS level events; strategy development and operational management; international marketing; business development; sales growth; safety and risk management; and ISO/halal implementation and management.
“The last two years have taught us to be agile and adapt to the changing environment. Mitec has been the game-changer in the nation’s resilient business events industry. A result-driven professional with extensive strategic and managerial experience in convention/exhibition centre venue management, Mala was nominated as the Top 40 Women in MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) in Africa for 2015 and was awarded the South African Association of Conference Industry Fellowship Award.
