PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (picture) together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah, Senior Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and senior government officials, will be visiting the US on May 12 and 13 this year to meet with their counterparts there.
This is part of the preparations for the upcoming Asean-US Special Summit (AUSS) that will take place in Washington, DC.
According to Wisma Putra, the AUSS is expected to issue a Joint Vision Statement which would underscore the commitment and aspiration to enhance the Asean–US partnership in the interest of enduring peace, stability, security and shared prosperity for all.
“The special summit is held in conjunction with the 45th anniversary of the Asean–US Dialogue Relations. It will serve as a strategic platform for Asean and the US to review and explore pragmatic cooperation to strengthen the existing partnership,” the ministry said in a statement.
“The special summit is expected to address issues such as regional and international issues of common concern, economic cooperation, Covid-19, health security, climate change, and clean energy, among others.”
The entourage will also hold bilateral meetings with various US officials, including the President and VP of the US Joe Biden and Kamala Harris respectively. They will also have meetings with the leadership of the US Congress, some members of the US Cabinet and American business leaders.
The Prime Minister is also scheduled to attend the Keluarga Malaysia Hari Raya celebration and meet with the Malaysian diaspora in Washington, DC.
