Ahmad Zahid files defamation suit against Dr Mahathir

Ahmad Zahid claims that Dr Mahathir alleged that they had met to seek his help to resolve the former’s ongoing court cases

UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, has filed a lawsuit against the former prime minister (PM) and Parti Pejuang Tanah Air chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, for defaming him.

The suit was filed on April 20 in the High Court, through the firm of Messrs Shahrul Hamidi & Haziq.

Ahmad Zahid claimed that Dr Mahathir had defamed him by alleging that they had met to seek his help to resolve the former’s ongoing court cases.

Ahmad Zahid denied the claims and claimed that the words uttered were untrue, unwarranted, unsubstantiated and mischievous on his part as a plaintiff in the suit.

“I have never met Dr Mahathir for help to resolve my cases,” he said.

In response, Dr Mahathir, through his solicitors from Messrs Haidir & Co, denied the allegations and said that the words were defamatory.

The counsel, in a press release, said the former premier denies all allegations made in the defamation suit filed by Ahmad Zahid as the plaintiff.

“Our client reiterates that what was said is the truth and reserves his right to possibly file a counter-claim,” they said.

The Kuala Lumpur High Court set further directions for the hearing of this case in relation to the Plaintiff’s Interim Injunction application on June 17, 2022, at 9am.

The court also set the same date for the case management of the plaintiff’s suit.

Earlier this month, Ahmad Zahid has also filed a similar suit against Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin, head of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, over a similar accusation made when Muhyiddin was PM.
