UMW Group automotive sales rise by 48% in March

For 1Q22, UMWT recorded sales of 22,447 units, 31% YoY higher than the 17,151 units registered in 1Q21

UMW Group stated its automotive sales improved in March with the number of vehicles sold by it rising by 48% to 35,246 units from 23,853 units sold in February. 

Sales were boosted by the company’s move to ramp up production to fulfil outstanding orders. 

In a statement yesterday, UMW stated that UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd’s (UMWT) sales surged 32% month-onmonth to 8,487 units in March 2022 from 6,432 units in the preceding month. 

For the first quarter of 2022 (1Q22), UMWT recorded sales of 22,447 units, 31% year-on-year (YoY) higher than the 17,151 units registered in the same period in 2021. 

The best selling models in the 1Q were the Hilux, Vios, Corolla Cross and Yaris. 

In an effort to further strengthen the Toyota brand in Malaysia, UMWT recently launched the 5th Toyota GAZOO Racing Festival Season in March 2022. 

The Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) brand also performed well in the market with sales of 26,759 units in March 2022, 54% higher than 17,421 units sold in the previous month.

Perodua sales in the 1Q totalled 61,624 units, 6% higher than the 57,909 units registered in the same period of 2021. 

As the Covid-19 pandemic and component supply issues continue, Perodua is working diligently with its suppliers and distributors to minimise the impact experienced by its customers. 

“We are very pleased with the increase in sales registered by UMWT and Perodua in March 2022, supported by a strong orderbook,” said Datuk Ahmad Fuaad Mohd Kenali, group president and CEO of UMW Holdings Bhd. 

He said both companies were on track to achieve their sales targets for the year and were increasing production levels based on existing capacity to expedite vehicle deliveries to their customers. 

Furthermore, the two companies plan to introduce several all-new and updated models this year to drive sales and achieve their sales targets.
