MACC detains PCSB junior exec for graft probe

THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has clarified that one junior level executive at Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) has been arrested.

“MACC also clarified that one of the nine individuals detained to assist in the investigation is a young executive (junior level executives) at PCSB and not the CEO as claimed by some parties,” the commission said in a statement yesterday.

Meanwhile, eight other individuals who were also arrested were owners and senior officials of contractor companies and vendors who carried out projects related to the issue of corruption.

MACC confirmed that it has detained nine individuals since April 8 until yesterday to assist in the corruption probe related to the project at PCSB.

“This investigation is the result of cooperation and information sharing between the MACC and Petronas to help strengthen the integrity of the government-linked company,” the anti-graft body said in a statement.

On Saturday, Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) confirmed that one of its junior level executives had been arrested by the MACC for suspected graft.

The state oil firm said it is committed to fully cooperate with the MACC in its investigations, and it staunchly condemns all forms of misconduct among its employees.
