Malaysia Airlines targets RM100m ticket sales

The target would be driven mainly by sales for popular destinations such as London, Australia, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu

MALAYSIA Airlines Bhd aims to sell RM100 million in flight tickets during the Malaysian Association of Travel and Tourism Agents (Matta) Fair campaign from April 8 to 17.

Malaysia Airlines Group CMO and customer experience officer Lau Yin May said the target would be driven mainly by sales for popular destinations such as London, Australia, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.

She added that it was also a follow-up to the success of the Malaysia Airlines Travel Fare (MATF) which ended on April 4 where flight tickets to Kuching, Kota Kinabalu and London were the most sold.

“The RM100 million target is high, but we want to try to achieve it.

“If we do not succeed, it is okay, because we know we are getting closer to the target,” she said at a press conference with Malaysia Airlines yesterday for the upcoming Matta Fair in Kuala Lumpur.

Also present was Matta honorary treasurer Nigel Wong.

Malaysia Airlines and its sister companies, Firefly and MASwings, will be participating in the annual Matta Fair happening from April 9 to 10 at the World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur.

Guests attending the two-day Fair can enjoy discounts on airfares, activities, and an opportunity to win one of the 21 return tickets up for grabs in its Buyer Contest when visiting the Malaysia Airlines booth.

With Malaysia’s borders finally reopened, Malaysia Airlines will be offering up to 45% off airfares to all domestic and selected international destinations within its network, for immediate travel up to Nov 30 this year.

Firefly will also be offering discounts of up to 50% off airfares when holiday seekers book via its mobile application or web from April 7 to 10, for travel beginning April 14 to Oct 29 this year.

Lau noted that customers who purchase Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, and MASwings’ flight tickets from participating agents will also take home limited-edition merchandise from the airlines as well as Enrich.

Holiday goers can stand a chance to win a business class upgrade from Malaysia Airlines with every purchase of an economy class ticket.

The airlines will be giving away a total of 21 return tickets for the Buyers Contest exclusively for shoppers at Matta Fair 2022 to further ignite the holiday spirit.

“On top of this, shoppers can also purchase an array of local goods, limited-edition collections and merchandise from participating merchants under Journify, the one-stop travel and lifestyle digital platform by Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), at its dedicated booth.

“Customers can also earn double Enrich Points for every purchase, additional discounts, and free gifts during the fair period.

“Simply scan the QR code displayed at the booth, pay for the items, and pick up at the Journify booth for a seamless shopping experience,” she said.

Lau highlighted that as members of the Travel Safe Alliance Malaysia, the sister airlines are dedicated to ensuring safe and seamless travel for customers.

She said this is by adopting the highest safety and hygiene standards across all end-to-end touchpoints of the traveller journey so passengers can continue to “Fly Confidently”.

Meanwhile, Wong said Matta trusts such collaboration and support from MAG together with Firefly and MASwings to be a strong crowd puller to further boost and revive international and domestic tourism, and contribute to the overall tourism growth.

“Matta would like to inform the visitors that are planning to visit the fair that strict compliance to the standard operating procedures will be followed.

“Only fully vaccinated visitors are allowed to enter the hall, to wear face masks at all times and to exercise physical distance in the halls, including exhibitors, staff and visitors,” he said.

Admission is free and it is open from 9am to 7pm for the two days, Saturday and Sunday.

Public can visit and follow the Matta Fair account on social media platforms to receive latest updates.
