KUALA LUMPUR – National women’s singles shuttler S. Kisona (picture) fought back from a game down to stun former world number one Saina Nehwal of India 17-21, 21-13, 21-13 in the second round of the Swiss Open Championships 2022 at St Jakobshalle, Basel this morning.
The stunning fightback allowed Kisona to check into the quarter-finals.
In the first game, Kisona actually started well to lead 15-12 but Saina managed to draw level at 15-15 before romping home 21-17.
The second set saw both shuttlers going neck-and-neck until 8-8 before Kisona stepped on the gas to pull away and win 21-13.
In the rubber game, the world number 64 Kisona and world number 23 Saina were tied at 6-6 when Kisona again turned on the power for a 21-13 win and a place in the last eight.
Kisona will face Thailand’s Supanida Katethong in the quarter-finals today at 9pm (Malaysian time).
Meanwhile, three men’s doubles pairs – Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi and Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani – as well as two women’s doubles combinations – Lim Chiew Sien-Vivian Hoo and Anna Cheong-Teoh Mei Xing – also stormed into the quarter-finals.
