PHARMANIAGA Berhad (Pharmaniaga) will begin distributing the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11 years following the conditional approval given by the Drug Control Authority (DCA), as announced by Health DG Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah yesterday.

Adolescents aged 12 to 17 have previously had the vaccine approved by DCA.

The Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine for children was first approved in China. Other countries that have approved the use of the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine for children include Chile, Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, Thailand, Turkey, and Hong Kong.

Sinovac COVID-19 vaccines are available at the majority of private clinics and hospitals throughout the country.

So far, 904,368 (25.5%) of the targeted age group’s children have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine through the PICKids national immunisation programme, which began on Feb. 3 and continues today.

In an effort to reduce the spread of infectious diseases among school staff and to prevent outbreaks and cases, 3.6 million children aged 5-11 will be immunised as part of PICKids in time for the start of the new school year.
