THE government expects revenue collection to return to pre-pandemic Covid-19 levels, meeting or exceeding RM139 billion this year following a clearer ray of recovery, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.

He said the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (HASiL) through its management needs to formulate various short and simple strategies to achieve the target, at the same time maintain good performance in the future.

“This includes identifying new economic sectors and implementing tax laws transparently, effectively and efficiently. Indirectly, this effort will increase the trust of Malaysian Family and ensure that taxpayers fulfill their responsibilities.

“A more appropriate, customer-friendly approach and equipped with education should be a guide to the HASiL Family in performing the task respectively.” he said in his text of speech read out by Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.

Revenue collection for 2021 increased by 17% to over RM140 billion compared to 2020.
