MALAYSIANS travellers to the Philippines are now allowed to enter the country with their completed vaccination certificates on their MySejahtera app.
At the same time, travellers from the Philippines who wish to visit Malaysia can do the same thing with proof of complete vaccination certificate in VaxCertPH.
“Both governments have reached an agreement on Feb 14 to mutually recognise the Covid-19 vaccination certificate on a reciprocal basis (mutual recognition of vaccination certificates),” Wisma Putra said in a statement yesterday.
This is in response to several Malaysians who have been stranded at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Manila, on Feb 13.
“In essence, the Malaysian government recognises travellers who have fully received a vaccine approved under the List of Emergency Uses by the World Health Organisation or approved by the authorities of certain countries.
“However, the recognition of MySejahtera’s digital vaccination certificate is subject to the decision of other governments,” it added.
The two governments will continue to verify the authenticity of the Covid-19 vaccination certificates to assist fully vaccinated travellers.
It was reported that there were 15 travellers from Malaysia, of which 13 were Malaysian nationals and two others were of foreign nationality, were barred from entering the Philippines as authorities did not recognise MySejahtera vaccine certificate.
As a result, their passports were confiscated and they were supposed to be deported yesterday.
However, the Malaysian Ambassador to the Philippines have met the stranded travellers and worked on their appeal.
