Be prepared to face cyber threats, warns minister

THE Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission calls on public to remain vigilant in facing the growing cyberattack threats.

Its minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa said in a statement in conjunction with Safer Internet Day (SID), celebrated in February every year.

“The evolution of digital technology has helped and simplified matters. However, we must always be prepared in the face of increasingly widespread cyber threats and attacks,” Annuar said.

He noted that the collapse of morals, ethics and noble values in the Keluarga Malaysia (Malaysian Family) community is also exacerbated as a result of the forgetfulness of the individual.

“Therefore, as a caring and responsible Malaysian Family, let us together build a resilient digital community that is able to act in a knowledgeable, fair and progressive manner towards cyber prosperity,” he said.

Since 2010, Annuar said that Malaysia has introduced various themes for SID based on current cyber scenarios adapted according to threat trends and cyber security issues in Malaysia.

This year, the theme for Malaysia SID 2022 is “KITA Siber” which stands for communication, inclusiveness, responsibility and familiarity.

“Through this theme, emphasis is consistently given to the steps to form an attitude of self-control and responsibility towards one-self and others to form a prosperous and progressive Malaysian Family’s digital community,” he further said.

He also urged all Malaysians to work together to be ethical and integrity digital citizens in facing increasingly complex cyber threats.

“Happy Internet Safety Day 2022. Always smart, always safe. Together towards cyber prosperity,” he added.
