PETRONAS Dagangan Bhd has announced a special Chinese New Year offer to help motorists get home safely during the holiday season.

From Jan 29-30 and from Feb 5-6, motorists can enjoy free coffee, snacks, health screenings, vehicle inspections and discount vouchers at 150 Petronas stations across Malaysia; the campaign is being run in conjunction with the Ministry of Transport.

The initiative is a continuation of the Petronas Coffee Break Campaign, which began 25 years ago as a way of encouraging motorists to take a break during their long drives and rest up before continuing on their journey.

During the launch of the campaign today, Deputy Minister Datuk Henry Sum Agong said that road accidents have decreased by 26% over the last year, but it is still a worrying number.

He said the main cause was human error and the Ministry of Transport is working hard to reduce these numbers.

“The majority of these accidents were primarily caused by human factors such as speeding, fatigue and lack of focus.”

“As such, it is important for drivers to observe road safety rules as well as stay fresh and alert so that they are better equipped to drive safely. In the past 25 years, Petronas’ initiatives have supported the ministry’s effort by providing an avenue for motorists to take a break during their long drive,” he said.

Petronas marketing, downstream business VP Ahmad Adly Alias said, “For 25 years, we have been the trusted travel partner for our customers, serving them coffee and snacks and reminding them to take a break when tired through our flagship Petronas Coffee Break Campaign.

“We are grateful for the support of our longstanding partners in making the campaign a success since 1998. It is with their contributions that we can continue spreading the safety message to a wider audience whilst celebrating the festive period with meaningful giveaways,” he said, adding that the Petronas Coffee Break Campaign is in line with the company’s corporate social responsibility initiative to promote road safety.

Throughout the campaign, the Road Safety Department will carry out its advocacy programme at more than 50 participating stations to educate motorists on road safety tips.

St John Ambulance Malaysia will also be carrying out complementary health screenings, including blood pressure and glucose checks, at selected participating stations.

Yamaha Motor Malaysia will also be carrying out complimentary motorcycle inspections at participating stations to ensure vehicles are in tip-top condition before long journeys.

In addition, Petronas AutoExpert will be carrying out free 18-point vehicle inspections for every engine oil change at 11 outlets across the Klang Valley, Selangor and three more in Negeri Sembilan.

As the main sponsor of the Petronas Coffee Break Campaign, Nestlé Products Sdn Bhd is offering free coffee and snacks to all customers at participating stations.

Other offerings for this campaign period include Etika Sdn Bhd’s give-away of Revive Salted Lemon and iNova Pharmaceuticals Pte Ltd’s contribution of Dequadin candies.

Additionally, RM50 worth of discount vouchers will also be given to motorists during the campaign period. Shopee Malaysia will be distributing RM18 Ang Pow for new users as well as 10% coin cashback for a minimum spend of RM65, capped at 8,000 coins, for existing users.

For added convenience, Grab will also be giving away two times RM10 discounts for its GrabMart service with a minimum spend of RM30 for ease of last-minute shopping during the festive period. Petronas will also offer a RM18 Ang Pow comprising discounts for Setel and its branded merchandise, PRYSM.
