PLUS Malaysia Bhd is expecting daily traffic to increase to 1.6 million from 1.4 million vehicles during the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration beginning Jan 28 to Feb 6.
In anticipation of this increase, PLUS said its travel time advisory (TTA) will provide a guide for highway customers leaving the Klang Valley to northern-most destinations like Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Perak (north) to enter the highway before 10am.
“Similarly, this applies as well to highway customers heading to the south towards Johor.
“For destinations and states closer to the Klang Valley, customers should plan their journey to enter the highway after 1pm,” PLUS said in a statement yesterday.
Moreover, travellers are also encouraged to follow the TTA to avoid congestion, said PLUS COO Datuk Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi.
“This can prevent vehicles heading to various destinations from converging at various locations along the highway at the same time,” stated Zakaria.
He reminded highway customers to always observe Covid-19 standard operating procedures especially when stops are made at the rest and relaxations, and lay-bys.
“MySejahtera scan is still required and dines-in is allowed for fully vaccinated customers while physical distancing must be adhered to,” he added.
He also reminded highway customers to drive safely and to be alert especially in bad weather conditions, hence sufficient rest and sleep are important prior to one’s journey.
He also reiterated that proper journey planning and vehicle maintenance could increase safety on the highway and advised customers to always drive according to the speed limits.
“Seat belts are strongly encouraged for all passengers sitting in the backseats. Child safety seats are also important to protect the little ones,” he noted.
Additionally, he also encouraged highway customers to use Waze or Google Maps to navigate their journey.
Meanwhile, he said PLUS highway patrol teams, PLUSRonda, are always at hand to assist in case of any eventualities and are easily contactable via the 24-hour PLUSLine at 1800 88 0000.
“To ensure a seamless and smooth journey as one enters and exits the tolled highways, make sure that the Touch ‘n Go card and Touch ‘n Go RFID e-Wallet have sufficient balance at all times,” he added.
In the meantime, highways customers can find the latest traffic updates from the PLUS app’s journey planner CCTV function, PLUSTrafik’s Twitter and PLUS Unique Texting Realtime Interface chatbot, as well as the highway electronic messaging signages.
