Khairusalleh’s resignation comes at the rife of banking industry widespread speculation that he will be potentially eyeing the CEO position in Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) that will be left vacant by the current CEO Datuk Seri Abdul Farid Alias upon his contract expiration on Aug 1, 2022.

RHB group, in a filing to Bursa Malaysia yesterday, stated that it has initiated its transition plan and the selection process to find a replacement is currently ongoing.

In the interim, Mohd Rashid Mohamad who is the MD (group wholesale banking) has been appointed as the officer-in-charge/principal officer of the group.

Khairussaleh, 54, was the group CFO of Maybank from 2008-2012 before he was made president director and CEO director of Bank Internasional Indonesia from 2012-2013.

“Khairussaleh will be considered ‘fit and proper’ for the position by Maybank. Bank Negara Malaysia will also likely have no objection to him filling the post,” said the observer.

He also added that Khairussaleh prior experience in Maybank also means he will be comfortable working with regulators and customers with a strong finance background working for a very complex organisation.

Maybank’s spokesperson said it does not respond to market speculation.
