EIGHT individuals are being investigated on Saturday’s #TangkapAzamBaki rally and last Friday’s ceramah at Restoran Amjal.

They are Pakatan Harapan Youth chief Howard Lee Chuan How; DAP member Mandeep Singh, VP Dr Thanussha Francis Xavier; Malaysian United Democratic Alliance secretary general Amira Aisya; PKR member Adam Adli; Parti Pejuang Tanah Air Youth chief Abu Hafiz Salleh Hudin; Parti Amanah Negara Youth vice-chief Zubair Rahim and strategic director Asmaalif Abdul Adam.

Lawyer Kamil Munim said they are being investigated under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, Section 9 of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, as well as Regulations 9, 10 and 17 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342).

He said all those called gave their cooperation to the police and no issues were raised during the investigation.

“However, some people will be called by the authorities as they have returned to their home states before the notices to testify were issued,” he said yesterday.

Meanwhile, Lee said the country has taken a step backward as the institution which is supposed to uphold integrity has been compromised and should be the one investigated.

He described this as a significant reversal of democracy and justice.

“We hope the same efforts taken by the police in investigating us will also be taken for (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Tan Sri) Azam Baki.

“We promise to continue fighting until justice is done and delivered to all,” he said.

Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim took to Facebook to urge the Home Minister and the Inspector-General of Police to immediately stop harassing and investigating the organisers of the day-long demonstration, adding that protesting and peaceful demonstrations are rights enshrined in the Federal Constitution.
