THE Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) is organising a Voluntary Vehicle Inspection (VVI) campaign #drivesafenoregrets, offering free vehicle inspections to all owners and drivers of private vehicles in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year (CNY).

The campaign is held from Jan 21 to Jan 31, 2022, from 9am to 4pm at all Puspakom checkpoints nationwide except Shah Alam and Pasir Gudang which are reserved for heavy commercial vehicles only.

Those who are interested in getting the free inspection can make an appointment online at www.mypuspakom.com.my while walk-ins are still available at Wisma DRB-HICOM, Shah Alam, on Jan 26, Lotus’s Ara Damansara on Jan 29, and R&R Dengkil (southbound), PLUS Highway, on Jan 30 for 25 inspections including brakes, side slips, tyres, suspension, smoke, lights, bottom and top of the vehicle, and tinted mirrors, among others.

Puspakom CEO Mohammed Shukor Ismail said the campaign is the centre’s corporate responsibility to raise public awareness on vehicle safety, especially during the festive season.

He said this year, the campaign is also offered through the Puspakom’s mobile inspection unit compared to last year’s campaign which was only offered at Puspakom’s inspection centres.

“People are encouraged to take this opportunity to get a free inspection to ensure their vehicles are safe to drive, especially for those who will be driving home during CNY.

“This service is free for the benefit of road users in Malaysia during the festive season, when the number of vehicles on the road increases. Normally, the fee for VVI is RM50 for a private vehicle,” he said.

Mohammed Shukor added that people who come to the Puspakom checkpoint or Puspakom’s mobile inspection unit for vehicle inspection must comply with the standard operating procedures such as wearing face masks, scanning the MySejahtera app and body temperature.

Similarly, Proton 3S Kelana Jaya and Hzn Engineering Sdn Bhd in collaboration with Grab Drivers Malaysia Association (GDMA) and Ehailing.fm launched the E-hailing Service Campaign providing free inspections as well as services at low rates.

The campaign, which took place on Jan 22 and Jan 23, will continue for e-hailing drivers until further notice where they can enjoy special privileges in after-sales vehicle maintenance, diagnosis and repair.

“This effort is aimed at reducing maintenance costs, especially for e-hailing drivers who have been severely affected by Covid-19,” GDMA said in a statement recently.
