EIGHT Malaysian hotels received the Asean Tourism Standard Awards which was held on Jan 19 during the Asean Tourism Forum 2022, in Preah Sihanoukville, Cambodia.
They were the Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur (KL); The Datai Langkawi, Kedah; Shangri-La Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, Penang; and Golden Sand Resort by Shangri-La, Penang for the Asean Green Hotel Standard (2022-2024) category.
Meanwhile, the Asean MICE Venue Standard (Meeting Room) (2022-2024) award was given to Four Points by Sheraton Puchong, Selangor; Lexis Hibiscus Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan; Le Meridien Hotel Putrajaya, Putrajaya; DoubleTree by Hilton Melaka; and Shangri-La Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, Penang.
Themed “Asean — A Community of Peace and Shared Future”, the awards ceremony was attended by the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry secretary general Datuk Wira Dr Noor Zari Hamat.
Also gaining recognition were Majlis Bandaraya Pulau Pinang, Majlis Perbandaran Muar and Majlis Perbandaran Langkawi Bandaraya Pelancongan for the Asean Clean Tourist City Standard (2022-2024) category.
For Asean Sustainable Tourism Standard (2022-2023), The Habitat Penang Hill won the Urban category while Walai Penyu Conservation Park, Libaran took home the award for the Rural category.
“In accordance with the Asean Strategic Tourism Plan 2016-2025, the Asean Tourism Standard is also a standard for all Asean member countries, and regional tourism industry players to use as a guide in providing high-quality and excellent service delivery to tourists which aims to make Asean an excellent destination on a global scale,” Motac said in a statement yesterday.
Besides Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam were also recognised for their tourism service standardisation.
