‘Whitening’ exercise for tour vehicles starts tomorrow

The Tourism, Arts and Culture  Ministry (Motac) will implement a ‘whitening’ exercise on tour vehicles starting from Jan 15 until Feb 28 to ensure valid registration and licence.

Motac noted that the programme will be for tour operators, tour guides and travel agencies with eligible tourist vehicle operations in Sabah, Sarawak and the Federal Territory of Labuan.

It said additional licences, as well as vehicle permits of tour operators and tour guides whose validity expires from Jan 1, 2020 until now will be considered for renewal approval.

“Licence renewal applications are subject to existing guidelines. Licences of tour operators, tour guides and tourist vehicle permits expiring before Jan 1, 2020 are not eligible to renew their licences during the whitening period.

“They will be removed from Motac’s list and records and uploaded on Motac’s official website for the information of all parties,” the ministry said in a statement today.

The ministry said the whitening exercise involves the Tour Operating Business and Travel Agency Business (TOBTAB), Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H), Tourism Training Institute (ILP), Tourist Guides (TG) as well as Tour Bus and Rental Car Permit (BPKSP) for Sabah, Sarawak and the Federal Territory of Labuan.

It added that the agreement to implement a licence ‘whitening’ programme shows that Motac is always concerned with the huge and ongoing challenges faced by tourism industry players following the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“With the implementation of the extension of this initiative, Motac hopes that tour operators and tour guides will take the opportunity to apply for licence renewal within the stipulated period,” it said.
