THE Health Ministry has given conditional approval for Pfizer-BioNTech’s Comirnaty jab for children aged between 5 and 11 years old.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement that the decision was made following a meeting held by the Drug Control Authority (DCA) today.
According to Dr Noor Hisham, this group will be given 10mcg, which is a lower dose compared with the same vaccine given to those aged 12 and above.
“The DCA has also given conditional approval for the use of Convidecia® Recombinant Novel Coronavirus Vaccine (Adenovirus Type 5 Vector) Solution for Injection as a booster dose to individuals aged 18 years and above with an interval of 3 to 6 months after receiving the first dose of the same vaccine.
“The registration holder for this vaccine is Solution Biologics Sdn. Bhd. and it is manufactured by CanSino Biologics Inc., China.,” he said.
The approval of this conditional registration still requires information on the quality, safety and effectiveness of the vaccine product to be monitored and evaluated on an ongoing basis by the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Division (NPRA), based on the latest data from time to time. –TMR
