Malaysia detects second Omicron case

MALAYSIA has recorded another Omicron case involving an eight-year old local citizen who had stayed in Lagos, Nigeria with her family.

The case was detected on Dec 14, 2021 after the Institute of Medical Research conducted PCR Genotyping Assay on 52 positive cases among travelers who entered the country between Dec 6 and Dec 10, 2021.

“The case arrived in Malaysia with her mother and sister on Dec 5, 2021 from Lagos, Nigeria on a transit flight in Doha, Qatar.

“The whole family had conducted RT-PCR Covid-19 test upon arrival at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and was instructed to undergo mandatory home quarantine,” said Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin in a statement today.

Separately, he announced that all recipients of a complete dose of Sinovac vaccine or individuals 60 years of age and older (regardless of the type of primary series vaccine) – should obtain a booster dose injection no later than February 2022.
