Grab to acquire grocery chain Jaya Grocer

GRAB Holdings Ltd is buying Malaysia’s top premium grocery chain Jaya Grocer Holdings Sdn Bhd, according to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. The Singapore-based Grab signed an agreement with Jaya Grocer’s shareholders to buy all of the grocery chain’s ordinary shares and 75% preference shares for an undisclosed amount. Grab has the option to buy the remaining preference shares after the deal closes, according to the filing dated Dec 13. The deal came weeks after Jaya Grocer’s founder, the Teng family, bought back its entire stake in the chain from AIGF Advisors Pte Ltd. — Bloomberg

MAHB calls for tender for 226 commercial lots

MALAYSIA Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) is calling for an open tender exercise for 226 commercial lots following the recent improvement in air traffic movements as a result of the easing of air travel restrictions. In a statement yesterday, it said airports nationwide have a total of 808 commercial outlets currently, whereby about 70% have been tendered out previously and a majority of this had been awarded. In executing the group’s commercial reset initiative, this last leg of the tender is the concluding phase to attract both local and global players to participate in offering new brands at the airports nationwide. — Bernama

Bintai Kinden’s unit to bid for Sarawak’s EPCC contract

KEJURUTERAAN Bintai Kindenko Sdn Bhd (KBK), a wholly owned subsidiary of Bintai Kinden Corp, is teaming up with Kejuruteraan Gemilang Jaya Sdn Bhd (KBJ) to jointly explore and pursue engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contract for Power Import Project by Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd in Sarawak. KBK had inked a joint venture agreement to form a 80:20 consortium with KGJ to tender, and if successful, undertake the execution for the EPCC project in Tanjung Kidurong, Bintulu, Sarawak yesterday.

Sime Darby partners TNB to accelerate EV adoption

SIME Darby Motors and Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) have formalised a memorandum of understanding to explore various initiatives to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EV) in Malaysia. In a joint statement yesterday, both parties said the initiatives, among others, include ensuring a network of highly efficient EV charging infrastructure is in place to support this growth. The parties also aim to look into other energy-efficient and renewable energy initiatives to optimise the cost of EV charging infrastructure and to reduce carbon emissions. — Bernama
