JHM, QES Group to invest RM190m in Batu Kawan Industrial Park

GEORGE TOWN – Public-listed companies JHM Consolidation Bhd (JHM) and QES Group Bhd (QES) have chosen to build their new manufacturing facilities in Batu Kawan Industrial Park (BKIP), Penang, with investments totalling RM190 million.

Their investments are poised to generate over 1,100 job opportunities over a five-year period.

JHM group chief executive officer Datuk Tan King Seng said with an investment of RM170 million, the electronics and mechanical manufacturing services provider is setting up a two-storey facility with a built-up area of 350,000 square feet build-up area in BKIP.

“Through this expansion, JHM will broaden the business portfolio to include assembly and test services for telecommunication equipment and devices. In addition, this new facility will cater to JHM’s expansion plans in the automotive lighting industry.

“Specifically, we are aiming to transform JHM from a module assembler to a tier-1 automotive lighting player, enabling us to provide the full lighting solutions and deal directly with the automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs),” he said in his speech during an investment announcement ceremony officiated by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow at Penang Development Corporation’s office today.

Founded in 2005, JHM provides customised solutions to various sectors such as automotive, industrial, aerospace and medical devices sectors.

Meanwhile, QES group managing director Chew Ne Weng said the estimated investment for the company’s project will be around RM20 million, including land, construction, facilities and manpower costs.

He said construction will kick off in the second quarter of 2022 and the plant will cater to group’s expansion in automated test equipment manufacturing as well as a new venture in IR4.0 (Fourth Industrial Revolution) smart manufacturing solutions.

“This new site is expected to provide 100 new job opportunities in three years’ time, including roles for engineers, technicians as well as administrative and executive personnel,” he said.

Founded in 1991, QES specialises in the manufacture, distribution and provision of engineering services for inspection, test, measuring, analytical and automated handling equipment.
